Fear Can Be Good or Bad

Oct 13, 2020

Hey guys, I'm Jason Geiman host of the King of pressure wash podcast. I'm a self employed entrepreneur. I grew my pressure washing business to a million dollar business in under five years. And now I'm here helping hundreds of pressure washer start grow, be successful in their pressure washing business so that they can be the King of pressure washing in their area, too. Today's show is going to be an awesome show on the King of pressure wash pot,

[Inaudible]

Fear, fear of growing a business, fear of being successful. Fear of just fear. What can fear do to us? What can what are the, the things that fear will let us not do by having fear? Now, fear can be good. Fear works in the part of we're up on a roof, and that fear kind of comes in and says, you might not want to do that. And so fear does work in the side of that. So fear can be a good thing. So I know a lot of times so I was at Washington this weekend and I met a lot of awesome subscribers, a lot of great followers that have followed me. And so, and, and, and this is what I really got to take away of Washington is fear can either help us out or fear can make us not do things that we really should be doing.

And so that is one thing that I've heard a lot of was, you know, I'm kind of afraid to do this, or, or I'm a little bit, you know, I'm in a comfort zone. And so some guys there got booted out of their comfort zone and how did that happen? They got laid off. They're laid off that kind of thing. And guess what? They don't have a comfort zone of their job no more. And so now they have a fear of not making it. So that is what I want to talk about a fear, how fear can help us get going. So Tony Robbins has a quote that says the only impossible journey is the one you never began. So if you never take that first step and you don't ever do anything, your gr it's impossible to fail at that point. You'll never fail because you'll never step out there and try to take action.

And so that is one thing that we want to be able to do is just take action. If we don't take action, nothing, we are not going to get a read objection, because that's how it works. You know, if we don't ever say, all right, I'm going to do it. I'm going to try. I'm going to try and see. Even if I fail, I'm going to go out there and I'm going to do it, and I'm going to make it happen. And I'm gonna get to the next level. Or that level might be, I'm going to go fill out my LLC, or I'm going to go do this next level. So at Washington, I did a little example of taking action. And what I did is I held up a $50 bill and I said, who wants the $50 bill? Everybody raised their hand.

I want that $50 bill. I said, no, who wants this $50 bill? And everybody raised their hand up again. No, I want to know who, what this $50 bill. Well, finally, somebody came up and took the $50 bill. One person, some took action. You have to take action. A hand up is like trying to put our foot out there, but we don't want to step down. We were afraid that something might happen. We're afraid that I might screw up the house. Ah, I can't maybe the phone won't ring. Maybe we need to do something else. And so taking action is one thing that will start your journey to be a successful journey in B. And if you're looking for time, freedom, and you're looking for financial freedom, that is what happens when you take action. If you don't take action and you don't go out there and you grab that money and you bring it home, it's not going to happen.

When, when you know, if we don't take action, the phone ain't gonna ring. You know, if we're not putting out signs, we're not posting on LinkedIn. If we're not taking action because, Oh, I don't know how to do LinkedIn. I've never been on LinkedIn. You know what that's called? That's called not take an action. That's called excuses. That's called fear talking in your head of, well, I don't know if I can figure that out. I guess, you know, Jason says that I need to do that, but I don't know if I can figure that out or not. You have to take action. Yeah. If you don't take action, you're not going to get a reaction. And so that is why we need to take action. You know, successful people. Don't just sit around thinking. I wonder if that's just going to fix itself. Is it just gonna take off by itself?

No, it's not going to take off by itself. You have to go out there and do it. Nothing like losing a job to put the fear of God in you. And you know what, that's 100% that that will help you get out there. I've never done LinkedIn shame on me. You are exactly right. That's how you're going to get to that million dollar step. That helps you get a lot of that's how I know you've got a goal of a million dollars and that is a great way to get a lot of commercial work and to help that out at the end of the day. So you definitely want to do that.

So

The guy that I was actually talking about, about losing his job or going furlough is this guy right here. I got to meet Luke. It was awesome to meet you. I hope you all had a safe trip back. They drove all night. And so you guys were awesome there. So I was really glad that I, like I said, I'm really glad I got to meet everybody. And that is awesome. So when we take action, we will be able to get to the next level. Again, fear is a hard thing. Fear is one of those things that you know, you, we can all come up with excuses. I'm going to tell you one of my failures of fear, because I'm just I'll just, I'm going to be honest with y'all. So about two or three months ago, I have mentioned on here that I was going to do the podcast side of things.

I'm going to take, I'm going to strip the audio off the video, and I'm going to start at podcast that if you want to listen to it on podcast, I'm going to condense a lot of them down. It's mostly going to be the Sunday night lives. So that way, you know, that's where a lot of information and some new guys and old guys get there. And so I've, I've been procrastinating. And some of it is fear of not knowing what I'm going. I've never set a podcast up. I've never done any of that stuff. Now, can I work on a computer? Yes, I can, but I've never set a podcast up. I'm never done it. And so I've been procrastinating. So next week, you're going to see a podcast on here one way or another. And I want you all to hold me accountable, because if I hold you accountable, you will go and get to the next level because if you, and I've heard it over of, Hey, Jason helps me make sure I get there.

And so I want you all to know,

Hold me accountable. And you know, what, if I got to work on that second all this week, I want to at least get it up, have four podcasts on it and then have some scheduled out. And that's my goal is to get it set up for podcasts and then have it set out. And so, you know, it's hard sometimes, sometimes it's like,

I just ain't got time. I just, I just

Excuse here that excuse here. And a lot of times these excuses that are coming up, I'm just too busy. I'm just too busy, Washington. I'm just too busy. Piddle. Fiddling is a lot of time. We're afraid of doing whatever we need to do. And so we're afraid of failure. Well, what if that don't work? And you might not even say that it might be sitting up here in the top of your head going, how do you know that's going to work? I don't know if my podcast is going to work. I might put a week worth of time in there. And none of you guys might not listen. I might take a time and people that don't listen to YouTube, but listen to podcasts might be a hundred thousand people. I don't know. I mean, in the summertime, I get 200,000 views a month on my YouTube channel.

So if I could get 200,000 views on my YouTube channel, why can't I get a hundred thousand podcasts download? I don't know, because I'm afraid that it might fail. Do I think it'll fail? No, I don't think it'll fail, but I think it's hard. You know, building your website, doing marketing, doing all that kind of stuff. I understand it can be hard. So one incident I was at Washington and one of the guys there needed help with his Google Google my business. He couldn't get it. He's done very well. This year. He's going to hit a hundred thousand dollars on a part time deal. He's a school teacher and he's, he's done over a hundred thousand dollars and, and that's without a Google my business, I think because he tried to do as Google, my business listing, it got rejected and he didn't know what to do.

So he's like, Jason, will you help me? Don't roll up in about 15, 20 minutes later, all up and running. And he was happy as a pickle. So that is why you definitely want to, you know, and here's the thing. If you're afraid to do it yourself, pay somebody also do it, find somebody else to help you learn how to do it. There's YouTube. There's different things to learn. Sure that you're able to go out there and do it. We are trying to be successful. Again, it takes action. If we sit around and do nothing, we're going to get nothing. And so, you know, one thing that I seen this weekend is, you know, a lot of eye opening moments of or, or you can do this, you know, it's not rocket science guys. You don't need a four year degree to figure this stuff out.

You know, a lot of times that a lot of people think that I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I can get business. I, I don't know if I know how to claim. I don't know if I'm capable of doing it. You are capable. You're doing look at yourself in the mirror and say, you are capable of doing it. You can make it happen. So that is what I want you to do. And if you say, I can get customers to get the phone to ring and you know, I can get that to do that. Is it going to be easy? No, it's not going to be easy, but you know what? I always tell my, you know what I always tell my daughters and my wife tells them too, is we don't say can't, you know, we tell them, you can, it might be hard, but you can do it.

And here's the thing, guys. Failure is not a bad thing. Failure means you just didn't figure it out. Right? That means you got to learn some more to that. You can keep doing it. And in this business, you're going to learn all day long. You know, there is nobody, absolutely nobody in this business that knows everything they need to know about business. I would bow. I can guarantee you because here's the thing. What happens. You might think, you know, I know everything about marketing. I'm, I'm the King dangling about marketing. All it takes is Google to do some animal update and your marketing could have went right out the door, you know? And so guess what you gotta do then, then you gotta figure out another marketing thing. And if you knew everything, you would have been able to figure that out. And so you're going to learn the next marketing way to get customers. Now we can sit around and say, well, that didn't work. I failed, or you can get up off the couch and take action, go figure it out. It's not that hard.

It can be done.

I promise I got another Google, my business, five star review. That's awesome. Keep working at them. If you're trying to set a goal,

When we hit that goal, go celebrate,

Set, little goals. Don't set some big, giant goal of, I want 500, five star reviews so I can beat Bobby. Well, that's a good, Beehag go big, hairy, audacious goal. Or you can say, you know what? I want to get to five, five star reviews is a must and I'm going to do everything I can to do that. Now what will happen when we do that? So first off, this is what's going to happen. The first week is going to go around and you're going to be like, yeah, I'm going to get five star reviews and you're not going to ask anybody. Second week is going to come around and you're going to get one third week comes around. You're like, I better start working on them. Five star reviews. Otherwise I ain't going to hit my five and then you'll get another one or two.

And then that last week you'll be like, will you please give me a five star review? I'm trying. Cause in the back of your mind, you're thinking I gotta beat this goal. And when you not only think about a goal, go write that goal out, go out there, write it on a sheet of paper and you should write all your goals out, get a vision board. If you're just starting in business, get a vision board, write things down, go figure out what you want. Go put a picture of something of what you want on a vision board. And on that vision board, you, you put those things up there. And what happens is when you see that vision board and you're like, you know what? I want that. And when you do that, you will work harder. You will do things that you never thought you could do because a vision board really will help you out at the end of the day.

And so that is definitely something that you can do. Again, you got to get out there and take action. If you don't take action, somebody else will in your town. And you know what that means. It means somebody else has taken your money. You know, when I started up here, I said, I held up a $50 bill and I asked, who wants it? One guy took action. You know what? You know who the guy that's going to be the busiest. And who's going to be the most successful. The guy that took action. Now, does that mean we're going to fall flat on our face? Sometimes you hell yeah. It's going to mean we're going to fall flat on our face sometimes. Sometimes. sometimes it's going to be more than once. You know, we're going to fall. We're going to fall 10, 20 times. But that don't mean we don't get back up and take action.

We don't start. Alright, that failed. What do I need to change? All right. That's not working. What do I need to start working on? Oh, you know what? I'm not able to answer the phone this week. What do I need to do to answer that? Make sure that found get to answer because at the end of the day, if we do all this work and we don't answer our phone, it does nothing. It does absolutely nothing. And so, you know, again, when we don't answer our phone, that's us failing ourselves. That's us failing ourselves. So hire somebody to answer your phone, let your wife answer your phone, let your girlfriend answer your phone. Let your mom into the phone. Let Jill's office answer the phone bid slot people that answer the phone. There's people out there. So go out there and don't give me an excuse of why you can't answer your phone because usually the excuses is I'm lazy and I don't want to talk to somebody or I don't. I'm going to have to walk all the way over there to shut the machine down, put some, but then your ears and you know, answer the phone when you're there. That's what you gotta do.

Your setbacks are a set up for your major comebacks and you know what? That is 100% true extreme washing. Because a lot of times when we get that

Setback, it makes us reset. And it makes us say, cause usually this is what happened.

This is what happened. I'm going to go work out every day. This is January 1st. I'm going to go work out every day. And we work out for the first month and we're doing good. And something happens and working out is so much fun, no more. And then we go over here and do something else and then we quit working out. And then something happens that you go to the doctor and doctor says, you need to start working out. You're getting fat, start working back out. We do the same thing in business. We'll be, you know, we'll, we'll get comfortable and we'll start getting work. And then we quit doing what we need to do for marketing. You know, I always say that marketing is all the time when we're doing our before and after pictures, marketing, baby that's marketing. Don't just think about it, of covering your tail when we go down.

And before we, if you want to, before we leave that job and we post those pictures, we're trying to get that job. Two, three weeks down the road, five weeks down the road that there's that one before and after picture that you post, that could be a $20,000 job. It could be $150,000 job, but if we didn't post that, it's going to be a goose. And so that is why I also, I have some in person classes. I don't have them up in my room website yet. They will be coming up January. I believe it's going to be the it's going to be the first weekend of January. I am going to have a hands on training in Orlando and I was on a team team up with mr. Bobby Walker and it'll be a one day class. And so Benjamin Franklin says, tell me, and I forget, teach me.

And I will remember involve me and I learn. And so when I do my in person classes, I have one coming up in Raleigh, which will be this here. You will be involved. So you will learn. This is a hands on class. We going to do Christmas lights, hands on and pressure washing hands on. You know, that is why I do my training classes the way I do. There's not very many classes that lets you hang the Christmas nights. There's not many classes out there that will let you pressure wash and sew or soft flush or run the surface cleaner. And so in my training classes, you get to do all that. Tell me, and I forget, teach me and I remember involve me and I will learn. And that's mr. Benjamin Franklin. So when you come to my classes, that's what you get. You get involvement. So you will learn and you will be ready to go out and knock it out of the park at the end of the day,
