Gutter cleaning is one of the easiest add-on services you can offer as a pressure washing contractor, and it's something almost every homeowner needs at least once or twice a year. But cleaning gutters efficiently — without spending all day on a ladder — requires the right tool. I've tested a lot of gutter cleaning attachments and tools over the years, and I've found what works best for getting gutters clean fast while keeping you safe on the ground.
I've been offering gutter cleaning as part of my pressure washing services for over 15 years. In this post, I'll share what I consider the best gutter cleaning tool on the market, what to look for when choosing a gutter cleaning attachment, and how to add gutter cleaning to your service lineup profitably.

Why Gutter Cleaning Is a Great Add-On Service
Gutter cleaning is one of the highest-margin services you can add to your pressure washing business. You're already on the property washing the house or cleaning the driveway — offering to clean the gutters while you're there is an easy upsell that takes relatively little additional time but adds real revenue to the job.
Most homeowners know they should clean their gutters regularly, but they either don't want to do it themselves or they keep putting it off. When you're already there with your equipment, offering gutter cleaning is a no-brainer for the customer. It's a service that practically sells itself.
Clogged gutters cause real problems — water overflow damages fascia boards, soffits, and foundations. Homeowners who understand these risks are willing to pay to keep their gutters clean and functioning properly.
Types of Gutter Cleaning Tools
Gutter cleaning wand attachments
These are curved wand extensions that attach to your pressure washer gun and hook over the edge of the gutter. They allow you to clean the inside of the gutter from the ground without climbing a ladder. The curved end directs the water stream down into the gutter to flush out debris. These are the most common and most practical gutter cleaning tools for pressure washing operators.
Telescoping gutter cleaning wands
These are extended wands that can reach second-story gutters from the ground. They're longer than standard curved attachments and often adjustable in length. The tradeoff is that they're heavier and harder to control at full extension, but they let you clean high gutters without a ladder.
Gutter vacuum systems
Some operators use vacuum systems that suck debris out of the gutter through a long hose. These work well for dry debris but are an additional piece of equipment to carry and maintain. For most pressure washing operators, a wand-based solution is simpler and more practical since you already have the pressure washer running.
Manual cleaning from a ladder
The old-school method — climb a ladder, scoop out debris by hand, and flush with a garden hose. This is slow, inefficient, and the most dangerous method. Every year, operators are injured falling from ladders during gutter cleaning. Using a ground-based tool is safer, faster, and more professional.
What to Look for in a Gutter Cleaning Tool
Reach. Make sure the tool can reach the height of the gutters you'll be cleaning. Single-story homes are easy, but two-story gutters require a longer wand or extension. Check the extended reach of any tool before you buy it.
Durability. Cheap plastic gutter attachments break quickly. Look for tools made from stainless steel or heavy-duty aluminum that can withstand the pressure and daily use of commercial work.
Ease of connection. The tool should connect to your existing wand or gun quickly and easily. Quick disconnect compatibility is ideal so you can swap between your regular wand and the gutter attachment in seconds.
Weight and balance. You'll be holding this tool above your head for extended periods. A heavy, unbalanced tool will wear you out fast. Look for something lightweight enough to be comfortable for a full job but sturdy enough to last.
Spray pattern. The best gutter tools direct the water stream forward in the gutter to push debris toward the downspout. Some tools have adjustable nozzles that let you control the spray direction.
Tips for Efficient Gutter Cleaning
Work toward the downspout. Start at the end of the gutter farthest from the downspout and work your way toward it. This pushes debris in the direction it naturally needs to flow. If you start at the downspout and work away from it, you're pushing debris into a dead end.
Remove heavy debris first. If the gutters are packed with heavy leaf buildup or compacted debris, a pressure washer alone may not flush it all out. In severe cases, you may need to do a quick hand removal of the heavy stuff before flushing with water. A leaf blower can also help clear dry debris before you flush with water.
Check the downspouts. A clean gutter with a clogged downspout is still a problem. Run water through each downspout to make sure it flows freely. If a downspout is clogged, you may need to disconnect it and clear the blockage before the gutter system functions properly.
Clean the gutter face too. The outside face of the gutter often has dark streaks — called tiger stripes — caused by oxidation and dirty water runoff. Cleaning the gutter face as part of the service gives the customer a much better-looking result. A simple wipe-down with the right cleaning product makes a big visual difference.
Offer gutter brightening as an upsell. Beyond basic gutter cleaning (removing debris from inside), gutter brightening — cleaning the exterior face of the gutter — is an additional service you can offer for more revenue. Tiger stripes on white gutters bother homeowners, and removing them is a visible improvement they're willing to pay for.

What is the best tool for cleaning gutters?
For pressure washing operators, a curved gutter cleaning wand attachment that connects to your pressure washer is the most practical and efficient option. It lets you clean gutters from the ground without a ladder, is fast, and uses equipment you already have. Look for a durable stainless steel or aluminum attachment with good reach.
Can you clean gutters with a pressure washer?
Yes. A pressure washer with a gutter cleaning wand attachment is one of the fastest and most effective ways to clean gutters. The water pressure flushes out leaves, dirt, and debris, and the wand attachment lets you reach the gutters from the ground safely.
How much should I charge for gutter cleaning?
Gutter cleaning is typically priced per linear foot of gutter or as a flat rate based on the size of the home. Pricing varies by market, but gutter cleaning is a high-margin service since it takes relatively little time when you have the right tool. Many operators charge it as an add-on when they're already on-site for a house wash or driveway cleaning.
What are tiger stripes on gutters?
Tiger stripes are dark vertical streaks on the outside face of gutters caused by oxidation and dirty water running over the gutter edge. They're a cosmetic issue that bothers many homeowners. Removing tiger stripes — called gutter brightening — is an additional upsell service you can offer beyond basic debris removal.
Do I need a ladder to clean gutters professionally?
Not if you have the right tools. Ground-based gutter cleaning wands and telescoping attachments let you clean most residential gutters from the ground. This is safer, faster, and more efficient than ladder work. Using ground-based tools also reduces your liability and insurance risk.
